The government has a new stimulus program!! The federal "Cash for Appliances"program offers rebates on purchases of home appliances that are certified as energy-efficient by the EPA's Energy Star Program! (These appliances usually have a Energy Star Sticker on them).
The program is funded with $300 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the state-run rebate program is intended to help make American homes more energy-efficient while stimulating the economy. Each state will run its own cash for appliances program.
Energy Star appliances eligible for the rebate include:
- Washers
- Refrigerators
- Freezers
- Dishwashers
- Air Source Heat Pumps and Geothermal Heat Pumps
- Water Heaters
- Boilers
- Central Air Conditioners
- Room Air Conditioners
- Oil Furnaces and Gas Furnaces
You don't have to trade in your old appliance, but your state will help you to find ways to recycle them!
The program is set to start late this year, or early next year, so just keep an eye out for more news, and keep in mind when searching for appliances!
